Description
The 3M Littmann Classic III is the most widely used Littmann model for day-to-day clinical monitoring. Its chestpiece is two-sided, with a 4.3 cm adult diaphragm on one face and a 3.3 cm paediatric diaphragm on the other, so one instrument covers both adult and child patients. Both faces use a tunable diaphragm: light pressure on the chestpiece brings out low-frequency sounds and firmer pressure brings out high-frequency sounds, which removes the need to flip the chestpiece between bell and diaphragm. The stethoscope is 69 cm long and weighs 150 grams. The tubing is single lumen and is made to recover its shape after being folded tightly in a pocket; it contains no natural rubber latex or phthalate plasticisers, which matters in latex-sensitive environments. 3M covers it with a 5-year warranty. For auscultation that demands cardiology-level detail the Cardiology range is the better fit; the Classic III is built for general examination and patient monitoring.
