Description
Baseplates are prefabricated plates used during the wax try-in and bite registration stages of complete and partial denture fabrication. Cavex baseplates contain shellac as a natural ingredient; after a brief pass through a flame they soften, adapt readily when pressed onto the plaster cast, and can be trimmed to the border outline with scissors. Standard thickness is 1.4 mm and the plates are pink. The material is dimensionally stable and does not deform at mouth temperature, so the base stays true during bite registration and try-in, which is what keeps the vertical dimension reliable through the later stages. The mica-free variant contains aluminium hydroxide that releases crystal water above 200 °C, making it more tolerant of flame work and giving a smooth, non-porous, glossy surface. Upper plates are supplied as BP004 and lower as BP054 in packs of 100, with a double-thickness upper plate BP024 in packs of 50. Keeping the flame moving rather than held on one spot prevents the plate from blistering and thinning locally.
