Description
Cerewax is a pink base plate (modelling) wax used in removable prosthetics. Its 58–62 °C melting range lets the wax hold its form at room temperature while softening quickly over a flame or in warm water so it can be adapted to the cast. Typical uses are building wax rims on a baseplate, recording vertical dimension and the bite, tooth set-up and closing gaps at the try-in stage. The formulation is prepared for both summer and winter conditions, a practical advantage that limits the wax becoming unworkably soft in hot weather or brittle in cold. The material resists deformation and maintains dimensional stability after cooling, which reduces the risk of the bite record distorting between appointments — decisive if the vertical dimension recorded at the wax try-in is to be reproduced in the mouth. When heating, keeping the flame moving rather than held in one place prevents soot deposits and local thinning. Biocompatibility tests have been confirmed for the product and each box contains 23 sheets.
