Description
A phantom jaw is a hinged upper and lower jaw model that lets dental and dental technology students build manual skills before working on patients. The type known locally as the "Adana jaw" is a widely used training model built around individually removable teeth. Because each tooth can be taken out, exercises such as cavity preparation, restorations, endodontic access and crown preparation can be repeated as often as needed: a worn tooth is discarded while the jaw body stays in service. This construction is what allows replacement tooth sets to be bought separately and keeps the long-term cost of the model low. The model can be attached to a phantom head to work in a realistic patient position, or clamped to a bench holder to be used directly. When ordering replacement teeth, choose a set made for the same system, since tooth sockets from different makers do not always interchange. Check that the mounting matches your existing phantom head before purchase.
