Description

Dr. MAT lubricant spray is used in the routine maintenance of dental rotary handpieces to reduce friction and leave an oil film on the moving parts. Air turbines, micromotors, straight handpieces and contra-angles all run at high speed, so regular lubrication of the bearings directly determines how the instrument sounds, how hot it runs and how long it lasts. The adaptor nozzle is placed in the drive air channel of the handpiece and a short burst is sprayed in; the handpiece should then be run briefly to expel excess oil, otherwise residual oil can reach the working field during preparation. Lubrication is generally carried out before each sterilisation cycle in line with the manufacturer's instructions, and whether additional lubrication is needed after sterilisation is stated in the handpiece maker's maintenance schedule. The pressurised can must be stored away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Regular lubrication will not repair a worn handpiece, but it noticeably extends the service life of a sound one.
