Description
An endo block is the measuring aid that transfers the working length onto the instruments during root canal treatment. Once the length is determined, the file is placed in the slot and its silicone stop slid along the millimetre scale, so every file works to the same length and the risk of passing the apex is reduced. The cutting edge on the block is used to shorten the tip of gutta-percha points to the measured length. Because it sits stable on the bracket table and can be used one-handed, it keeps length setting quick during treatment. The material withstands autoclaving and should be cleaned and sterilised after each patient. Scale markings that have worn away can lead to measuring errors, so a block that is no longer clearly legible should be replaced.
