Description

A dappen dish is the small welled container used chairside and in the laboratory to hold and work with small volumes of liquid or mixed material. It is used for bonding agents, monomer, liquids and paste mixes, and glass is more dependable than plastic alternatives because it neither absorbs these materials nor reacts with solvents. The wide base makes the dish hard to tip during use, while the depth of the well allows comfortable work with brushes and applicators. Light-cured materials should not be left standing open in the dish; shield them and use them promptly. Residue should be cleaned with the solvent appropriate to the material, since dried resin residue will spoil the next mix. Heat-resistant glass can be autoclaved, but a dish that is scratched or chipped at the rim should not be used because of the risk of breakage.
