Description
Pumice is the natural abrasive used for the cutting stage of polishing in the dental laboratory and the surgery. Imicryl ImiPomza has a fine grain structure; it is mixed with water to a paste and applied with a rag wheel or brush on a lathe or handpiece. Its main use is removing trimming marks and micro-scratches from acrylic dentures and bringing the surface to a state ready for high polish; clinically it is used to clean tooth surfaces with a cup or brush after scaling. Pumice alone does not produce shine — once the abrasive step is complete, the surface must be finished with a polishing paste. Keeping both the wheel and the pumice wet matters during use: working dry or with excessive pressure heats the acrylic surface and can cause distortion and deep scratches. Using a separate wheel for each product prevents coarse residue from a previous job scratching the surface. The product is offered in powder and ready-to-use liquid pumice forms.
