Description
The mirror handle is the stainless steel body that carries the mouth mirror head and stays in the clinician's hand throughout an examination. The head screws into the handle, so when the mirror surface becomes worn or scratched only the mirror is replaced and the handle remains in service. Treating the mirror as a consumable and the handle as a permanent instrument keeps running costs down. A mouth mirror does three things clinically: it provides indirect vision, retracts the cheek and tongue away from the field, and reflects the operating light onto surfaces that are otherwise hidden — all of which depend on a secure hold of the handle. The knurled body reduces slipping even with wet gloves. Stainless steel construction is suited to steam sterilisation and resists corrosion over repeated cycles. Together with the explorer and cotton pliers, the mirror handle is a fixed part of every examination set.
