Description
The universal orthodontic plier is designed to cover most routine wire-bending work in a single instrument. It grips orthodontic wire, puts in the required angles and curves, and adapts the wire to the appliance; positioning clasp and spring arms and holding small metal components also fall within its use. Compared with pliers of specialised geometry such as Angle, Young or Adams, it is deliberately general purpose: fine, form-critical bends call for the dedicated plier, while routine adaptation is done without changing instruments. Because it is used both chairside and in the laboratory, it is a core item in orthodontic and removable prosthetic sets. Keep the joint clean and dry; once the beak surfaces wear, the wire slips and bends become less repeatable. The stainless steel body is suited to steam sterilisation.
