Description
The Nelson collar is moulded from 12 mm perforated plastazote to follow the anatomy of the neck. The perforations let air through, which cuts perspiration during longer wear. It immobilises more firmly than a soft foam collar, noticeably limiting neck movement, and is used on medical advice for stiff neck, cervical disc and degenerative complaints, and after strains and trauma. It comes in sizes 1, 2 and 3, selected by neck measurement; the wrong height either fails to support or presses on the chin. Where a higher level of immobilisation is needed after trauma or fracture, a Philadelphia collar is considered instead. Your doctor should set how long and how many hours a day the collar is worn.
