Description
The mouth mirror is one of the basic instruments in the examination set and serves three purposes at once: indirect vision of tooth surfaces that cannot be seen directly, retraction of the cheek and tongue to open the working field, and reflection of the unit light onto the operating site. The mirror head is supplied without a handle as a replacement part and screws onto a standard mirror handle. Mirror surfaces become scratched with use, dull through sterilisation cycles and chemical exposure, or tarnish at the edges; image clarity then drops and detail is lost in exactly the tasks that need it most, such as caries diagnosis and locating canal orifices. Using replacement heads protects the investment in handles and renews only the worn component, which lowers running costs. Because it is a threaded fitting, the head should be checked for tightness before each use so that it cannot loosen during work. Sterilisation suitability varies by product; confirm from the label that the mirror is autoclavable before processing.
