Description

Optosil is a hand-kneaded, putty-consistency impression material from the condensation (C-type) silicone group. It is used to take the preliminary impression in the two-stage technique, with fine detail captured in the second stage using a flowable C-silicone from the Xantopren range. The material is mixed with a separately supplied activator; mixing time is 45 seconds, total manipulation time 1 minute 25 seconds, and the minimum time in the mouth is 4 minutes. Setting is complete in around 5 minutes 25 seconds overall. The putty consistency lets the material act as its own carrier in areas where the tray alone gives insufficient support. Even distribution of the activator is critical: streaks of catalyst left in the mix set at a different rate locally and compromise the accuracy of the impression. C-silicones shrink over time once set, so the impression should be poured in stone without delay. The product is supplied in a 900 ml tub.
