Description
Chromatic alginate is an irreversible hydrocolloid impression material that shows its setting phases through a visible colour change after powder and water are mixed. That colour cue makes it easy to see when mixing should stop and when the loaded tray should be seated, which reduces timing errors in student clinics and busy practices alike. The material is classified ISO 1563 Class A, Type 1, meaning it belongs to the fast-setting group and keeps the patient's tray time short. The dust-free formulation limits airborne powder during dispensing. Its elasticity allows it to recover without permanent deformation when withdrawn over undercuts. It is used for working models, opposing arch impressions, orthodontic models and provisional prosthesis impressions. Alginate impressions change dimension as they lose water, so the impression should be poured in plaster as soon as possible after removal from the mouth. A 453 g pack yields around 32 impressions; the powder should be fluffed in the container before each dispense so that it stays homogeneous.
