Description
The micromotor handpiece is the part that holds and drives the bur, connected to the control unit by a coiled cord and plug. Because it is in constant use for trimming acrylic, adjusting plaster, grinding metal and polishing, its bearings and collet wear over time. Heat, growing vibration, a change in sound and loss of speed under load all indicate that the handpiece needs replacing; carrying on in that state degrades surface quality and increases the risk of bur fracture. When buying a spare, the plug type and cord connection must match your existing control unit, otherwise speed control may not work correctly even if the motor runs. Dust and acrylic debris packed inside the collet make the bur run out of true and should be cleaned out regularly. Burs should be seated fully and the collet tightened properly before starting.
