Description
A lidded tray is the stainless steel container used to keep instruments together for transport, storage and sterilisation. The lid protects the instruments from dust and contact, so a set can be carried to the unit still closed after sterilisation. During an autoclave cycle the lid must be left slightly ajar rather than closed tight, since steam has to reach the contents for sterilisation to be reliable. The stainless surface stands up to the disinfectants used in the surgery and to repeated heat cycles, and does not corrode even when scratched. The small size suits faculty student sets and procedure kits that carry a limited number of instruments. Organic residue must be cleaned out of the tray after use for the next sterilisation cycle to be effective.
