Description
Bandage scissors are a surgical scissor type designed for cutting dressings and adhesive plaster, with an angled lower blade and a blunt probe tip. The blunt tip lets the blade slide easily between skin and dressing, while the angled blade allows the scissors to work parallel to the surface without pressing into the skin. Together those two features reduce the risk of scratching or cutting the patient's skin while a dressing is removed, which is why bandage scissors should not be substituted with straight surgical scissors. The 20 cm length gives enough leverage to cut through thick bandages and multi-layer gauze in a single stroke. The stainless steel body can be sterilised in an autoclave. Adhesive residue builds up on the blades after cutting plaster; if it is not cleaned off, the blades bind against each other and cutting efficiency drops, so regular cleaning noticeably extends the working life of the instrument. It is a practical item to keep in a dental surgery, a medical practice and a first aid cabinet.
