Description
Steri-Strip is an adhesive skin closure that brings wound edges together and holds them in place. It is used to close superficial cuts without sutures and to support an incision line for a period after sutures or staples have been removed. In the reinforced type the strip body is strengthened with polyester filaments, so it does not stretch under tension and let the wound edges pull apart. In the manufacturer's catalogue the reference 1546 corresponds to the reinforced strip in the 6 × 100 mm size. Technique determines the result: the skin must be clean, dry and free of oils, the strips are placed perpendicular to the wound line a few millimetres apart, and they should not be stretched. Leave them in place until they begin to lift on their own; pulling them off can cause fresh injury. Strips are not adequate for deep, contaminated or bite wounds, or where bleeding has not stopped — those need medical attention. 3M's health care business now operates under the name Solventum.
