Description
The ankle is the joint most often sprained, and cold application in the first hours after a sprain is the standard approach. This compress is cut to the shape of the ankle, sitting so that it wraps the bony prominences on either side and the area around the heel — a fit a flat compress cannot achieve here. The bead gel structure lets it take the shape of the joint and hold its cold for a long time. The fastening strap keeps it in place while you elevate and rest the foot, which is particularly useful with sprains because it makes treating the ankle while raised straightforward. The inner face is fabric lined, so the gel never touches the skin directly. For chronic ankle stiffness and older injuries it can be warmed in a microwave or in boiling water for heat application. Keep each session to 15 to 20 minutes, and see a doctor if swelling and pain do not settle.
