Description
A bubble type air mattress is a support surface used to stop pressure building continuously on the same points of the body in bedbound patients. Driven by its compressor, the air cells across the surface inflate and deflate in turn, so the points where the body rests on the mattress keep changing and pressure does not accumulate in one area. It is laid over a standard hospital bed mattress and is straightforward to set up. The surface wipes clean, which makes maintenance easy. The bubble type is the more common and economical option compared with tube-cell mattresses; for higher-risk patients, which type is appropriate should be assessed with the care team. An air mattress alone is not enough — regular repositioning and skin care must not be neglected.
