Description
A manual blood pressure monitor is inflated by hand while you listen for Korotkoff sounds through a stethoscope; in the hands of someone trained in the technique it gives a reading less affected by the factors that trouble automatic devices. That is why it remains the standard tool for doctors, nurses and health students. The gauge reads across 0–300 mmHg, and the diaphragm and movement are built to hold their accuracy under frequent use. The cuff has a D-ring and hook-and-loop closure, so it can be pulled on and tightened with one hand, which also makes self-measurement possible. A stethoscope is supplied with the set, so nothing extra is needed. The zipped case protects the gauge from knocks in transit — aneroid gauges can drift after a drop or a hard impact. For a reliable result, choose a cuff sized to your arm circumference, sit and rest for five minutes before measuring, and support your arm at heart level. Aneroid gauges should have their calibration checked at regular intervals.
