Description
A wool-covered hot water bottle is the classic warm-application product, holding 2 litres and used on the lower back, upper back, abdomen and to warm the feet. What separates it from the fleece-covered version is the cover material: wool conducts heat more slowly, so warmth transfers more gradually and the bottle feels less sharp to the touch. The cover is not only about comfort — it keeps the hot surface off the skin, which is why the bottle should never be used without it. Do not use boiling water, and fill the bottle to no more than two thirds; a bottle filled to the neck is under pressure and can leak at the stopper. Check before every use that the stopper seals and that the body has no punctures or cracks. Heat should not be applied without medical advice over areas with reduced sensation, on a diabetic foot, or to anyone who is not fully conscious, because of the burn risk.
