Description
A digital clinical thermometer is the most basic tool for following a fever; it takes longer than a non-contact forehead device but, used correctly, gives a dependable household reference. The Mesilife MC-101 can be used orally, under the arm or rectally. It beeps when the reading is complete, so you are not guessing when to remove the tip — guessing is the most common reason a reading is cut short with a restless child. The last-reading memory lets you see the previous value and judge whether the temperature is rising or falling. The battery is user-replaceable, so the device can stay in service for years; when the cell weakens the reading takes longer, which is your cue to change it. Remember that normal values differ by site: an underarm reading runs lower than oral and rectal ones, so follow a fever from the same site each time and tell your doctor which site you used. Clean the tip after use as the manufacturer instructs, and keep the thermometer to one user.
