Description
Roll silk tape is a medical tape with adhesive applied to a woven silk backing, used to hold wound dressings and gauze against the skin. What separates it from paper tape is grip: the woven backing takes tension, so it is chosen where a dressing has to stay put over moving areas such as the shoulder, knee or hand. The trade-off is that it sticks harder, so on very sensitive skin with frequent dressing changes paper tape may be the better option. The weave is made not to irritate and is comfortable on sensitive skin. The tape tears easily across its width, so no scissors are needed during a dressing change. It measures 5 cm wide and 5 metres long; 5 cm is enough width to close the edge of a medium gauze pad with a single strip. Removing it slowly and parallel to the skin reduces redness afterwards.
