Description
A tongue depressor is a single-use wooden blade that presses the tongue down so the back of the throat can be seen during examination. This product is non-sterile, which makes it suitable for routine mouth and throat examination; procedures requiring a sterile field call for the individually sterile-wrapped version instead. The box contains 100 pieces. The blades are sanded smooth with rounded ends — the manufacturing detail that matters most, since it reduces scratching of the oral mucosa and the risk of splinters. The wood is tasteless and odourless, so it causes no discomfort during examination and provokes nothing beyond the normal gag response in children. The blades are single use and should be discarded after use. Tongue depressors are kept in clinics and first-aid cabinets, and are also used to apply ointment in wound care and as stirrers in laboratory work. Store the box in a dry place away from moisture.
