Description
The Rüsch silicone urinary catheter is an indwelling (Foley) catheter used for continuous drainage of the bladder. A balloon at the tip is inflated inside the bladder to hold the catheter in place; it is inflated with sterile water, since saline can crystallise in the inflation channel over time and is not recommended. Being made of 100% silicone matters on two counts: silicone contains no natural rubber latex, so the catheter can be used in patients with latex allergy, and silicone catheters are reported to provoke less tissue reaction and less encrustation than latex ones, which is why they are preferred where the catheter is expected to stay in for longer. The product is supplied sterile and is single use; a catheter whose packaging is opened or damaged must not be used. Insertion must be carried out by trained healthcare staff using sterile technique — this is not a product for self-application at home. Catheter gauge (Charrière/Fr) and balloon volume vary by patient; contact us to identify the size you need.
