Description
Gauze swabs are the basic consumable for covering an open wound and cleaning the wound surface during a dressing change. This one measures 7.5 × 7.5 cm and is 4-ply: the size suits small and medium wounds and post-injection use, while the ply count determines how much fluid it absorbs. Made from hydrophilic cotton gauze, it draws tissue fluid away quickly and keeps the wound bed dry. The edges are surgically folded on automatic folding machines, so no cut edge sheds fibres or threads into the wound — a detail that matters because it reduces the chance of foreign material being left behind and of infection. Gamma irradiation makes it sterile as long as the pack is intact; never use a swab whose packaging is torn, wet or already opened. Do not touch the face that will contact the wound, and use a fresh swab for every dressing change.
