Description
Unlike a plain ankle sleeve, this support carries silicone pads that sit directly over the malleoli on the inner and outer sides of the ankle. The pads reduce the pressure and impact falling on those bony prominences, and the compression they apply to the surrounding tissue helps support the resorption of a haematoma. The breathable knitted fabric does not trap sweat and suits extended wear. It is used for malleolar degeneration, before and after fracture, where collateral ligament support is needed, in swelling and rheumatic conditions, and to protect the malleoli during sport. It is used on medical advice. Size is set by measuring ankle circumference with a tape — having the pads sit exactly over the bony prominences determines how well the support works.
