Description

A mallet finger splint keeps the fingertip joint from bending, holding the finger straight in extension. It slips over the fingertip and is secured with tape so that the end joint stays in the same position continuously. In this type of injury, keeping that position uninterrupted is an essential part of the healing process, so your doctor must decide when and how the splint may be removed. Splints are numbered by finger thickness — one that is too loose will not hold the finger in line, while one that is too tight can affect circulation. If the finger changes colour, goes numb or becomes more painful, loosen the splint and contact your doctor. For hammer toe of the foot, the silicone hammer toe cushion is a separate product.
