Description
A nose protection mask is an orthosis designed to take impacts that would otherwise reach the nasal area, and it is used for two distinct purposes. The first is sport: in helmetless disciplines such as football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, karate and taekwondo, athletes wear it after a nasal fracture or during periods of risk. The second is the post-surgical period: after nasal splinting or rhinoplasty the nasal bones are fragile, and the mask helps protect the nose from secondary trauma and keep the surgical result in position. The mask is held on by a strap passing around the head; the strap should not be over-tightened and should be set so it leaves no pressure marks on the cheeks or bridge of the nose. For post-surgical use, when and for how long it is worn depends on your surgeon's instructions. In sport, check that the mask does not obstruct your field of vision and does not slip once you start to sweat.
